"At first, [influencers] were just making content to share beauty tips and gain followers... with the hope of getting sponsored," says Yarden Horwitz, co-founder of consumer data firm Spate. "Now, they can just create a showcase on TikTok and make money from it."

NEW OPPORTUNITIES AND SHIFTING LANDSCAPE

TikTok Shop offers creators a more accessible and less aggressive way to earn income compared to the MLM model. This is attracting a new wave of sellers who are eager to leverage their authenticity and connect with consumers directly.

As a result, MLMs are facing a decline in recruitment and sales. Even mainstream beauty brands are taking notice, recognizing that TikTok Shop is where their customers are discovering and shopping for products.
